NONGPOH: Taking strong exception to the slow pace of construction of the offices of the Inspector of School and Joint Project Director of Education Department at here, the central body of Ri Bhoi Students Union (RBSU) flayed the apathy of the higher authority of the education department as no action has been taken so far against the contractor.
The RBSU after seeking information under the Right to Information Act on the status of the project had found out that the building was completely abandoned by the contractor for several years.
As per the RTI, it was revealed that the project was sanctioned at an estimated amount of Rs.1.26 crores and the full amount had already been withdrawn by the contractor, Starling Rynjah.
The reply to the RTI also shows that the project was started in the year 2013, but till now the construction of the building has remained incomplete and the half done building has turned to a safe haven for anti-social activities.
The RBSU has also voiced its serious concern that the money spent for the building has turned oit to be a huge waste and misuse of public money as the staffs and the officers are presently accommodated in the congested office of the Sub Divisional School Education Officer.
The Union strongly urged the state government to take up this matter as soon as possible so that the building construction is completed soon in greater interest of the public.
District School Education Officer, V. Nongbet said, “The existing office of Sub Divisional School Education Officer at present is very congested and we need another building for accommodating the staffs and the officer, but since the newly-constructed building was left incomplete, there is no alternative way but to accommodate them in the office of the Sub Divisional School Education Officer” he said
“It will be much better if the government takes step for speedy completion of the building and for the smooth functioning of the office as the existing office doesn’t have enough space for all the staff and officers” Nongbet added.
