Driver of Ri Bhoi accident case arrested
NONGPOH: The driver of Ri Bhoi hit and run case has been arrested. The arrested driver is identified as Fozle Karim (50), a local resident of Iewmawlong village under Nongpoh Police Station. Karim knocked down a 12-year-old boy and fled from the scene. The erring driver was arrested on the same day and the case has been registered against him.

5 held for assaulting man in city
SHILLONG: Five persons were arrested for assaulting a man in the city. Rickstarwell Dkhar lodged a complaint that on July 25 around 1.20 pm, Andrew Ginzamuan (20), Ginnunmana Hangshing (20), Songminthana Gangte (21), Robert Lamlalsuong Singson (20) and Lumtha Anal (21), assaulted him on the campus of L.K Bajoria College, Lower New Colony, Shillong, alleging him of video recording them during a scuffle.

BSF seizes cattle
SHILLONG: The Border Security Force has once again stopped smugglers from taking cattle into Bangladesh. In a media statement, BSF said its troops at Bhawanipur area in South Garo Hills seized 85 cattle. The BSF troops deployed at Baghmara and Bhawanipur launched a special operation and prevented 40 cattle worth more than Rs.5.6 lakh from being smuggled to Bangladesh. Similarly, in another incident, the BSF troops deployed at Lynkhat, East Khasi Hills, seized 20 cattle worth more than Rs 3.75 lakh. The BSF troops have seized 310 cattle and contraband worth more than Rs 53 lakh in the last one week.

Career workshop in Mendipathar
TURA: A one-day workshop and career counselling on IAS coaching was organised by the North Garo Hills district administration at Mendipathar College on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner SC Sadhu said through this workshop the administration is trying to reach out to aspirants for civil services by providing them the best support and inputs.

Bullfight fest in WJH
JOWAI: All roads lead to Wahiajer, Nongjngi and Madan Pamsna in West Jaintia Hills where the bullfight festival will be organised by the Dorbar Shnong and Raid.The Dorbar Shnong of Wahiajer, Nongjngi and also the Raid Raliang on Wednesday decided to organise bullfight fest in their respective areas.However, the Dorbar Shnong is yet to fix the date for the event, which will be held in August. Bullfight is a traditional sport and still enjoys the popularity. It is organised after rice sowing every year. Many Sein Raij organise Behdeinkhlam Festival while others hold bullfight to celebrate the end of the sowing season. Wahiajer village holds the biggest bullfight festival, where more than 8000 people (approximately) from Khasi and Jaintia Hills come to witness the fights of more than 64 bulls. Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and his brother Ngaitlang, JHADC MDCs Chemhok Garod and Chanki Lyngdoh of Sahsniang will also be present at the festival.
