SHILLONG: The Khasi lady who was seen in the video footage ‘defending’ a non-tribal that was circulated on social media has filed an FIR on Thursday asking for removal of the video clip from the internet.

The video clip has generated resentment among a section of the people who have criticised her actions on Facebook.

Addressing reporters on Thursday, Deigratia Pohthmi, from Ratacherra, said, “After the circulation of the video clip, it has affected me.”

Narrating the incident, she stated that she had urged the people present there to hand over the non-tribal to the Dorbar Shnong and not to take the law in their hands by beating him up.

She advised the youth that they had a future ahead of them, it was better for them to not beat up the non-tribal and to think of the fellow tribals who are studying/working outside the state might also face similar plight.

“No one has the right to beat up anyone even if they are wrong. I also love my own Khasi community but in that particular incident, I am concerned about his (non-tribal’s) life as they shouted to beat him with an iron rod,” she added.

Earlier, Meridon Marbaniang, Home Guard Traffic told reporters that she was the first person to intervene in the matter while Pohthmi came later. She informed that she filmed the video but did not have any clue that it would land up in wrong hands.

“I met a friend, Gabriel Mawlong who stole the video from my phone. I had known him for a very long time and in good faith, showed the video to him, never knowing that he will send it to his phone via Bluetooth,” she said.

Mawlong who was also present at the Press conference, admitted that the sent the video to another friend who might have misused the video.

She requested the people to not take the law in their hands. “He was alleged to have stolen something but there was nothing in his possession except a mobile phone.”

Her said she had been told that the non-tribal was a tourist from Southern part of India and was mentally retarded and probably got lost in the city.

It may be mentioned that the incident occurred at Mawkhar Main road on Monday and the video which was uploaded on Facebook, triggered a social media debate on her actions.
