Check-gates on Assam roads will be removed from August 1

GUWAHATI: All types of check-gates run by various government departments in Assam along the highways will cease to exist effective from August 1 next in the post GST regime. The state Cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal took a decision in this regard on Friday.

The state cabinet also took note of the flood devastation in the state and decided to take steps for rehabilitation of all the flood affected people. Meanwhile, all the minister of Assam decided to donate one month’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief fund for the benefit of flood affected people.

The state Cabinet meeting decided to celebrate the Independence Day in the state with a three-day programme to involve the mass people in the celebrations to be organised all over the state.

The state government to set up 100 Yoga Centres in the state including one t every development block in the state.

The Cabinet further approved the state government’s decision to provide monthly pension to retired journalists who have worked in the state continuously for at least 20 years and attained the age of 60 years. The journalist pension scheme will be put into effect from the next Independence Day when first batch 20 journalist pensioners would be handed over the monthly pension.
