SHILLONG: After vowing to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) by its own, the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has now decided to launch ‘Save Hynniewtrep Mission’ as a mark of protest against the MLAs who refused to discuss the group’s 14-point charter of demands.
Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, HYC president Peter Lawai said the “indefinite” mission, which will have elements of surprise, will be launched in near future.
“This movement will be by the people and for the people,” he added.
Condemning the 31 sitting legislators for not attending the meeting of the group, HYC said the ‘Save Hynniewtrep Mission’ will be launched in different places of Khasi and Jaintia Hills.
The pressure group has decided to stage protest in the constituencies of the sitting MLAs who are supporting the government. However, the form of protests has not been divulged.
Meanwhile, HYC leaders informed that the concept note of its own ILP will be released soon.
The HYC leaders further added that opposition parties like HSPDP, UDP and KHNAM have responded back to the organisation saying they are in line with HYC’s demands but they need more time for a meeting with the group. The council is also scheduled to meet the NPP on Tuesday.
While making it clear that HYC is not against anybody, the group added that it only wants to protect the Khasi land from influx.
Earlier this week, the HYC staged a black flag protest and a sit-in demonstration in the city as a mark of protest against the refusal of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and his cabinet colleagues to discuss the council’s demands.
