SHILLONG: A group of youth from Madhya Pradesh recently had a tour of the 1971 war history in Tura.
The Border Security Force Meghalaya Frontier recently conducted the border tour for 72 Youth from Madhya Pradesh who visited Tura under the ‘Maa Tujhe Pranam’ Scheme.
The youth, between 18-20 years of age, have excelled in various fields like education, sports, art and culture and were sponsored by the Madhya Pradesh Sports department.
Six instructors were also in the team. These students were from various districts of Madhya Pradesh. They travelled from Jabalpur to Guwahati by train and further by road to Tura and the border areas.
The BSF Tura Sector conducted the tour at the historical Killapara War Memorial where the youth were briefed and shown a documentary on the important role played by the sentinels in the 1971 War.
The youth were also shown the various arms, ammunition and special gadgets such as night vision devices being used by BSF. There was a briefing on the current border situation and how BSF carries out its tasks and maintains close surveillance.
This was the group’s first visit to an international border area and had the opportunity to spend a night at the camp and experience the buzz. The tour culminated at HQ 26 Bn BSF where the youth were given detailed presentation on BSF and various schemes open for recruitment in BSF, including the eligibility criterion.
The youth were heard shouting ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai, BSF ki Jai’ before their departure to Guwahati.
