Action sought against workers with no permit
SHILLONG: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) Mawkynrew Circle on Wednesday has complaint to the Labor Inspector of Mawkynrew C&RD Block against non-tribal labourers, who do not have work permit. The Union opposed contractors who bring along non-tribal labourers to work which has led to unemployment of tribals and has urged traditional heads to work together to prevent outsiders from working in the State.
NGO donates wheelchairs to PWDs in EKH
SHILLONG: The Mylliem Upper Shillong Skills and Talent Promotion Organisation (MUSTPO) on July 22 donated wheelchair to people with disabilities (PWDs) at Sadew Marbaniang Umseiniong, Upper Shillong. The organisation also held a programme called “Mylliem Upper Shillong Promotions of Arts” to uplift the PWDs.
Health organisation felicitates resource persons
SHILLONG: The Society for Action in Community Health (SACH) on Tuesday felicitated its 59 Community Resource Persons (CRPs), whose dedication and involvement made its recently concluded Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project successful in133 schools in five districts of the State. The districts where the project was carried out included Ri-bhoi, East Khasi, West Khasi West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills. The felicitation programme was supported by HDFC Bank Limited in collaboration with SACH to construct and renovate sanitation units in 133 schools of the mentioned districts. These CRPs, who were central to the project helped a great deal in inculcating the safe sanitation habits not only in school campuses but within the community as well.
Dadenggre teachers yet to get 5-months’ arrears
TURA: The fourth teachers in Dadenggre civil sub-division are yet to receive their five months’ arrears despite the same being released to their counterparts from other districts and blocks a few weeks ago.According to the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association, though the amount has been released to the Joint District Mission Coordinator by the district headquarters, the same is yet to be disbursed. The association urged the authority to disburse the same at the earliest.The association has also urged the authority concerned to link salary of teachers in Selsella, Dadenggre and Tikrikilla to bank accounts.
Health camp in WGH
TURA: A one-day health camp was organised for residents of Darichikgre, Baladingre and Tosekgre at Darichikgre village Community Hall in West Garo Hills recently. The camp was organised under the Garo Green Spine Conservation Project run by the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and the World Land Trust (WLT) with support from the Forest Department and the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC). It was held in collaboration with the Asanang Primary Health Centre (PHC). A total of 172 villagers including children were provided free health consultation, treatment and medicines by the medical team from Asanang PHC led by Dr S T Sangma.
‘Ampati Run’ to mark SWGH Foundation Day
TURA: The South West Garo Hills district administration, in collaboration with the District Sports Office, will organise ‘Ampati Run-2017’ as part of the celebrations for the 5th Foundation Day of the district on August 7. The run will start at 7 am and will be flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Cyril Diengdoh from Student’s Field in Ampati. The day-long celebrations will include an official function. Chief Minister Mukul Sangma is likely to attend the programme. Stalls will be put up by government line departments and other agencies.
BSF initiative for border youth in GH
SHILLONG: The Border Security Force at Dobasipara in Tura has started a month-long driving training programme for youths of bordering areas of Purakhasia under the Civic Action Programme 2017-18. It started on Tuesday. Thirty-four 34 unemployed youth from different villages have enrolled for the programme.
Birth anniv of Nepali poet celebrated
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Nepali Sahitya Sammelan recently celebrated the 203rd birth anniversary of poet laureate Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya at Babu Manisingh Gurung Auditorium in the city. This day was also celebrated as Gorkha Ekta Diwas for those killed in the ongoing violence in Darjeeling.
