TURA: A student body from Garo Hills today (Monday) urged Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma to look into various issues concerning the Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery workers from the region.

In a reminder submitted to Dr Sangma, the A’chik Students’ Welfare Association (ASWA) sought permanent appointment of ANM workers who have been serving on contractual basis for a period of 3 to 10 years as per seniority.

It urged the scrapping of the new recruitment rules for those who have been serving for a long period and to restore the old formula for the old batch of ANM workers.

“The age limit should be relaxed at the time of regularization for the old batch trainees as their ages increase with time due to the concerned department’s failure to appoint candidates who have undergone training as per batch wise seniority,” the association said.

The association also sought that preference is given to passed out trainees under government quota at the time of appointment and that vacant posts of ANM workers already advertised in newspapers, which have gone missing should be re-created and filled up immediately.
