SHILLONG: BJP’s Meghalaya supervisor and national spokesman Nalin Kohli on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Mukul Sangma for the Congress-led state government’s failure to repair bridges in Garo Hills using central funds.
Kohli said Sangma should explain to the people why his government has not used central funds to repair the wooden bridges in Garo Hills despite being the chief minister for so long.
“If the Congress-led government could not use the funds for building bridges, what bridges would the CM build with the voters of Meghalaya so late now,” Kohli added.
A government survey has recently found that Meghalaya has 27 bridges which need immediate attention.
Kohli was accompanied by BJP’s national general secretary (organisation) Ram Lal, who is on a three-day visit to Shillong to hold meetings of the party’s organisational set-up in the state for the 2018 Assembly elections in Meghalaya.
When asked about the accusation of Sangma that RSS is doing the ground work for BJP in the state for the elections, Kohli said instead of finding fault with others, Sangma should explain his failure to develop the state.
Kohli said the party was confident about its poll preparations and the kind of candidates it would put for the elections next year.
“The process of identification of candidates is going on at different levels though the central election committee will take a final call on the matter,” the BJP leader said.
Kohli informed that the party is also in close touch with BJP leaders Ram Madhav and Himanta Biswa Sarma to prepare the plan for the 2018 Assembly elections in the state.
