GUWAHATI: Troops of Guwahati Frontier of Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended three Indian cattle smugglers and two suspected wildlife smugglers from India- Bangladesh border under Cooch Behar (WB) and Kokrajahr, Assam, respectively on August 9 and 10.
Troops of BSF deployed at BOPs M/Balabhut and BOP Talai in Cooch Behar district on August 9 were observed suspicious movement of miscreants along with cattle towards the international border and challenged them to stop for identification. They did not pay any heed and tried to escape towards Bangladesh along with cattle heads. Three cattle smugglers were apprehended by the troops after pursuit and before crossing to border along with 45 cattle heads.
Apprehended cattle smugglers have been identified as Md Sayeb Ali Sardar, Md Yusuf Ali both are residence of Rajiberchar, (Kolabagani Part-II), Dhubri district of Assam. Third apprehended cattle smuggler was identified as Manowar Hussain of Charbhasani, Dhubri, Assam. They were handed over to West Bengal police for further legal action.
In another joint operations carried out on August 9 on specific intelligence input by the BSF troops from Dhubri sector along with Bagaribari Police (Assam) and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), Guwahati c at Sataguri near Kalimandir under Bagaribari police station in Kokrajhar district of Assam apprehended two persons who tried to escape towards Village Sataguri. Team seized one Tokay Gecko (an endangered wildlife species) having approximate value of Rs 5,00,000/- (five lakh), while they had come for negotiation. They have been identified as Samar Ali and Anowar Ali Sheikh from village Dolsinalga Part-2 Ubder, Gauripur, Dhubri, Assam.
Apprehended persons along with seized wild life species were handed over to DFO, Parbitjhora, Kokrajhar.
