Assam Governor felicitates freedom fighters

GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Friday felicitated four freedom fighters of Assam at Assam Bhawan in New Delhi. These freedom fighters are part of 93 freedom fighters invited to the President’s ‘At Home’ reception hosted in the National capital, according a communique from Raj Bhawan here.

Four freedom fighters from the state namely, Motiram Hatimuria of Charaideo district, Narendra Nath Haloi of Nalbari, Nirmala Goswami and Golok Hazarika from Lakhimpur district were felicitated by the Governor in recognition to their indomitable role during country’s freedom struggle which saw weeding the British Rule out of the country.

Acknowledging their selfless role during India’s freedom movement, Governor Purohit said, “The valour shown by you and countless martyrs from Assam etched the name of our State in the glorious history of independence of our country”. The Governor also conveyed his greetings and wished them long and healthy life.

Governor Purohit spending around 30 minutes with the freedom fighters interacted with them and said, “Your commitment and dedication have exemplified your love for the motherland which is also a source of inspiration for the generations to come”.

It may be noted that on August 9, the new President of India Ram Nath Kovind felicitated 93 freedom fighters from across the country including four from Assam in his first `At Home’ programme.
