SHILLONG: The South West Khasi Hills unit of KSU on Thursday staged a protest as chief minister Mukul Sangma inaugurated the administrative unit at Ranikor in South West Khasi Hills.
A few KSU members held placards to protest at Ranikor Bazar as they were not allowed to protest near the venue of the programme.
Police said the chief minister took the route from Mawkyrwat road to reach Ranikor. “Everything went peaceful and there was no problem,” police said. The KSU wants the state government upgrade the Ranikor C&RD Block to a civil subdivision and create a new C&RD Block for the Wahkaji-Umdohlun area of South West Khasi Hills district.
The president of KSU, Ranikor circle, Marconi Thongni said, “The inauguration of the administrative unit is a ploy to fool the public as the election is near.”
Members of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council, who were present at Ranikor market, demanded that the state government should implement ILP.
Kyrmen K. Ryja , president of HYC, Ranikor Circle said, “We came here not to protest the inauguration of the administrative unit but the organization stands firm in its demand to implement ILP.”
