SHILLONG: The father- in- law of the deceased taxi driver, Hubert Swer, whose vehicle was crushed by the uprooted tree from Raj Bhavan, will file a writ petition in the High Court of Meghalaya against the State Government within a week.
“I will nail the authorities in the High Court,” the father-in-law of the late driver, Dominic Lamo, told The Shillong Times. Dominic blamed the callous approach of the state government as according to him, precautionary measures should have been taken with regard to aged trees in view of heavy rainfall.
“Aged trees should be cut down and new ones should be planted,” he said.
Asserting that the negligence of the state government resulted in the unfortunate incident that claimed three lives, he said, “The government did not do anything for the last two-three days though there were reports of trees falling in some pockets of Shillong.”
According to Dominic, the government should have taken he matter seriously by cutting down aged trees which would have prevented loss of lives.
“How will the government give answer to us and how many more lives will be lost till it acts,” Dominic said.
