SHILLONG: Lieutenant General D.S Ahuja, General Officer Commanding 101 Area called on Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, at his office on Friday.
During an interaction which lasted one hour, the General Officer discussed a number of issues with the chief minister including internal security and disaster management, intelligence sharing and issues related to defence land encroachment.
In addition, many issues related to welfare of ex-servicemen were discussed.
The GOC also stressed upon the need for speedy processing of exgratia payment to martyrs.
The GOC urged the chief minister to allow sale of a plot of land to the parents of late Major David Manlun, who laid down his life on June 6 while leading an operation resulting in the death of three militants in Nagaland’s Mon district bordering Myanmar.
“This would enable them to construct a house in the martyr’s name as the family is staying in a small rented accommodation”, the GOC said.
The GOC offered army’s assistance in conduct of medical camps for remote villages.
He also invited the chief minister to be the chief guest for a seminar on Energy Conservation which the Army is planning to conduct in October.
