KHNAM slaps show cause notice on vice president

SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), central disciplinary committee, has slapped a show cause notice on its vice president, James Ban Basaiawmoit fpr making public his intention to contest next Assembly election in the state from People’s Democratic Front (PDF).

Following an emergency meeting on August 12, the central disciplinary committee stated that Basaiawmoit violated Article XIX (f) of the constitution of the regional party by expressing his intention to contest the MLA election from PDF.

In a press statement, KHNAM stated that the party cannot prevent him from contesting elections from a different party but, the party claimed, he did not inform the party of his intention as per laid down norms in the party’s statute.

The KHNAM stated that Basaiawmoit had been irregular in attending party meetings and violated article XX (3) of the Constitution of the party.

The committee has asked him to clarify on his statement as telecast on a local news channel.
