MENDIPATHAR: The A’chik Indigenous Justice Initiative Forum (AIJIF) has sought the intervention of North Garo Hills Deputy commissioner SC Sadhu in repairing the dilapidated road in New Colony here.
In a memorandum to Sadhu, the forum said the condition of the 1-km road, which stretches from Mendipathar Post Office to the market, is terrible and travelling on this road is impossible.
“Even pedestrians are facing problems due to the dilapidated condition of this road. It has not been in service for the last 20 years and hardly any mortar and bitumen are there on the stretch.
The incessant rain has further deteriorated the situation and has left behind a muddy stretch,” said the forum in its memorandum.
AIJIF pointed out that the drain which was to be constructed in New Colony was sanctioned under the Special Assistance Central Plan Scheme 2015-2016 for which an amount of Rs 4,75,000 was sanctioned by the GHADC in 2015-16 out of which approximately 60 percent has been withdrawn by the contractor, Nekaram Marak, in advance on November 1 but work has not started.
