SHILLONG: Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong, Upper Shillong (SNSUS) will organize a public hearing on August 26 to discuss on the encroachment of Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) wherein a resolution will be taken regarding MUDA issue at Football ground, Umlyngka.
“Till now nothing has been resolved. There are residents here who have to approach MUDA for electrification or to construct houses,” said Gilbert Laloo, secretary of the SNSUS, which is an umbrella body of traditional heads in Upper Shillong.
When asked on local MLA’s Ronnie Lyngdoh’s stand, he said, “On his part, he denied that there was any such encroachment of MUDA in Upper Shillong. If that is so why is there is a need for residents to approach MUDA before going to MeECL?”
“We want to clarification once and for all as to whether MUDA’s administration is acceptable or not, we don’t mind if they accept. However, let the government look into the matter if they don’t accept,” he added.
Laloo stated that the Syiem of Hima Mylliem, leaders of Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH), local representatives Telinia Thangkhiew and Ronnie Lyngdoh, KHADC CEM PN Syiem are invited to attend the public hearing.
He stated that the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong, Upper Shillong has time and again met the KHADC, CEM, P N Syiem to seek his intervention as Upper Shillong is a scheduled area.
“They said that the government did not take action as there are no proper mechanisms. We are puzzled at the functioning of the both the KHADC and the leadership,” Laloo said.
The Synjuk had invited traditional leaders of Laitkor, Mawlai, Mawpat (Shilliang Umkhen) besides the 12 villages falling under Upper Shillong, to discuss on the alleged MUDA encroachment.
It may be pointed out that SNSUS claimed that MUDA officers charge exorbitant fees from residents seeking to obtain occupancy certificates.
It may be reminded that there has been resentment on part of scheduled areas over the implementation of MUDA Building Bye-laws.
