SHILLONG: Mizoram has a history of two decades of severe conflict but the state has also witnessed a successful and stable peace accord in 1986.
However, no matter whether Mizoram apparently seems to be a perfect example of conflict resolution, much lies under the surface.
Rambuai, Mizoram’s ‘Trouble Years’, produced by writer and social activist Sanjoy Hazarika and researcher and publisher Preeti Gill, documents Mizoram’s critical decades. The documentary will be screened at Pinewood Hotel in the city at 4pm on Monday. It has already been screened in Aizawl, Guwahati, New Delhi and Dehra Dun. The film is produced by Maulee Senapati who has made four other documentaries with Hazarika which have travelled to international and national festivals.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with Hazarika, who is currently Director of the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative. The film has been made by C-NES (www.c-nes.org) which runs the pioneering boat clinics on the Brahmaputra with support from the Heinrich Boll Stiftung.
