TURA: Sadhiarani Sangma, wife of Cabinet Minister Zenith Sangma, will become the first chairperson of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) on Wednesday after opposition NPP decided not to contest the election.
“We have decided not to field a candidate for the post of chairman of GHADC,” said leader of the opposition Denang T Sangma.
The decision paves the way for the Congress to win the coveted post uncontested.
Sadhiarani, who is the chief minister’s sister-in-law, was a lecturer in the Garo Department at Don Bosco College, Tura. She joined politics in 2015 and won from Denangnakpara on a Congress ticket.
