JOWAI: A village dorbar in East Jaintia Hills has alleged that the acting dolloi of Elaka Sutnga, Patrick Pala, is abusing his power. The Moolamylliang village headman, Eborlang Dkhar, the Dorbar Shnong received a letter from the acting dolloi barring him from issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) in the cement market at Umpleng.
“I received the letter on August 25 on Tuesday. The Dolloi has directed the headman to stop issuing NOC in cement market place at Umpleng an area which is under the jurisdiction of the village Dorbar,” headman Eborlang Dkhar said.
“I don’t understand what his motive was to interfere in the power of the headman as conferred upon by the Village Administration Act of the JHADC,” he added.
According to Dkhar, the village dorbar has issued NOCs to individuals, including non-tribals, and the previous dolloi had never interfered.
He alleged that many non-tribals are doing business in the area without licence and that the dorbar has written to the JHADC in this regard.
