Man ‘rapes’ stepdaughter twice, absconds

JOWAI: A man allegedly raped his 17-year-old stepdaughter at her residence at Shangpung village before absconding, police said.
The mother of the girl had lodged a complaint with Raliang police outpost that transferred the case to Jowai Women Police cell.
The police are yet to act despite having received the complaint on August 10. The incident was also reported to the District Child Welfare Committee.
According to the girl’s mother, the man, identified as Niham Sungoh of Shangpung village, had sexually assaulted her daughter when she was 11 years old and again in January this year. He is still absconding. The mother also claimed that her husband had recently sent a text message to her daughter’s mobile number threatening her with dire consequences.
