SHILLONG: A woman has filed a complaint that she has received death threat for trying to stop sale of illegal liquor in Mawblei.

In her FIR lodged on August 24 with the East Khasi Hills SP, Amita Sangma claimed that people of Mawblei had given her the power to address the menace. She further claimed that sales have reduced since 2016 after she intervened.

Sangma alleged that she was threatened by one Blesstar Tariang of Madanrting, Mawblei, when she was surveying the locality.

The FIR also said Tariang hurled beer bottles at her and used abusive language and threatened to kill her and her family if she continues to check the sale.

She pleaded before the SP for submission of evidence and proof by Tariang who has accused her of working at the behest of other illegal liquor sellers. She requested the SP to book the accused as per provision of law and ensure safety.
