New office of soil and water conservation in West Jaintia Hills

JOWAI: Deputy chief minister RC Laloo inaugurated the office building of the soil and water conservation department in West Jaintia Hills district on Friday.
The building was constructed at a cost of Rs 4 crore.  
 Ronnie V Lyngdoh, minister in charge of soil and water conservation department besides George Kharmujai, the director of soil and water conservation department, V Papang, the additional director, among others were present.
 In his inaugural speech, Laloo lauded the efforts of the minister and officials of the department for having completed the construction of the building within the stipulated time frame and for serving the public in a beneficial way.
 He also thanked the minister for giving him the opportunity to inaugurate the building the foundation stone of which was also laid by the then deputy chief minister in 2012 when he was the minister of soil and water conservation.  
 In his speech, Laloo said, “Throughout my 25 year-old career as a minister this is the first time that I have seen a building completed in time.”
 Meanwhile, minister in-charge, Ronnie Lyngdoh said the office building in a spacious area would inspire better performance from officers and staff, especially in the wake of climate change, where the department could play a vital role to conserve the environment.
