SHILLONG: Hamlet Dohling, a member of the United Democratic Party, tendered his resignation to the party leadership on Saturday.
Dohling stepped down from his positions of general secretary of the UDP state youth wing, president of the youth wing of East Khasi Hills and executive member of the finance committee.
He, however, refused to disclose the reason why he left the party.
The Mylliem circle has rejected the decision of the coordination committee of the HSPDP-UDP alliance pertaining to seat-sharing in Mylliem.
Supporters of Dohling in Mylliem had voiced their resentment after the committee decided to field an HSPDP candidate from the constituency last month despite UDP pressing for Dohling’s candidature.
The supporters asserted that they would ensure his victory in the ensuing Assembly elections even if he contested from a different party.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Dohling said he would take his party workers and supporters into confidence in regard to contesting from another party.
“The process is still on and I will have to consult party workers and supporters who are in the final stages to decide from which party I will contest. The decision to contest from another party is as per their approval,” he said.
With just about five months left for the Assembly elections, Dohling said he would let the public know within this week from which party he would contest.
He, however, admitted that other parties have communicated with him.
