SHILLONG: The youth wing of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has urged Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to increase the upper age limit for State Civil Service Exams from 32 to 40.
The youth wing president pointed out to the chief minister that the last civil service examination was conducted in 2006 and the recent advertisement was published after 11 years.
Pointing that the upper age limit as per the advertisement is 27 years for general and for SC/ST it is 32, the memorandum stated, “After 11 years they would be 32 years of age which is the last qualifying age set by the government.”
“The general category with 27 years of upper age limit is not given any space of opportunity at all. Further preparation for such competitive examination normally takes years,” the statement added.
The youth wing requested Sangma to reconsider the age limit and allow people between 32-40 years to participate in the preliminary examination through an amended advertisement.
The KHNAM unit also mentioned the age limits followed in other northeastern states like Assam (43 years), Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram at 40. The central government has set upper age limit for competitive exams at 37.
