SHILLONG: Tura MP Conrad Sangma on Monday reviewed the status and implementation of projects under central schemes in South Garo Hills district.
Addressing a DISHA meeting at Gasuapara, Sangma took special interest in the implementation of projects under MGNREGA and PMGSY, a press statement issued here said.
The Union government had last year constituted the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee for effective development and coordination of programmes of the central government. The committee was christened DISHA.
The review meeting discussed policies such as the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (distribution of LPG connections), National Rural Drinking Water Programme and Digital India (internet access to the people). The MP felt that there was a potential for better implementation of the policies of the Central government after studying their mandates.
Sangma also lauded the block development officer for completing 68 man days in Chokpot apart from the launch of a self-help group, which has garnered a corpus of Rs 1 lakh and procured two power tillers in Chairingmagre.
The MP also opined that the prospect of specialisation in plantations and value addition through food processing could be explored under the NREGA (National Rural Employment Generation Act) as the next set of convergence.
A public meeting was also held thereafter where Sangma heard the grievances of the people, including those of PMAY-G beneficiaries who still have to receive the grants for 2012-13. The meeting also raised the point of developing infrastructure in the banking sector.
Another meeting will be held at the community and rural development building of Selsella Block in West Garo Hills on Tuesday.
