Space based information kiosk made operational at NEC office in Shillong

SHILLONG: The Space Based Information Kiosk (SBIK) which will be a game changer in bringing development to the North Eastern Region was inaugurated by Secretary, North Eastern Council Ram Muivah on Tuesday at the Secretariat of NEC here.

Addressing the media at the inauguration function, Ram Muivah stated that SBIK programme was one of the unique initiatives of the NEC executed by the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) in collaboration with State Remote Sensing Application Centres of the NE regions to showcase the capability of Space Technology inputs for developmental planning activities through a single window system.

He said that the programme would strengthen the planning and monitoring mechanisms of the projects funded by the NEC and other organisations of Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and various Central Government Departments in the NE region.

Muivah further added that SBIK on each of the States contaied information on land use land cover (LULC), wetlands, wastelands, forest working plan, land degradation map (LDM), roads, drainages and settlements, soil map on each of the States, ground water prospect map, wetlands infrastructure, inputs for disaster managements support programme etc., which are derived using space technology.

He further added that SBIK would be installed in all the line departments in the NE region for maximum utilisation of space technology inputs for developmental planning activities.
