SHILLONG: “As a CM I know what is happening, I know who is doing what and that is the strength the party has, based on that what is the call that we will be taking will be taken, but I am not going to put the card on the table,” Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said at the sidelines of a programme.
Calling the people who have shifted allegiance as turncoat, he said, “In politics you have heard the most common nomenclature politicians in and outside the assembly are referring to few politicians as “turncoats”.”
He blamed the turncoat for the political turmoil which the state has faced since the time of its inception and that the whole momentum of development had been dislocated due to the shifting of allegiance.
“It is due to turncoats who were instrumental in creating instability, dislocating the momentum of development and growth of the state,” Sangma said, adding that it has somehow prevented the state from realizing the potential from taking it to the highest pedestal.
Taking a dig at the turncoats, he said, “People shift their allegiance because they are looking at greener pastures and presuming that those greener pastures will satisfy their hunger for self-centric interests.”
As for Sangma, he observed that the mandate lies with the people as he said that the people will have to analyze and assess in that situation.
Observing that the people are saying “enough is enough”, he said that people of the state have been the sufferers of the political instability that the state has gone through all these decades preceding 2010.
He pointed out that a political turnaround has taken place which will provide the right kind of stability that was needed for the state wherein present government has been able to fight the forces which create instability in the state.
“Congress will do all that is necessary to ensure that Meghalaya is not subjected to that kind of instability in the future and it will happen,” he said.
