APJ memorial lecture held at USTM
SHILLONG: University of Science and Technology Meghalaya hosted the second APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Lecture at Techno City Campus on Saturday. The lecture was delivered by BS Tomar, Director of Radiochemistry and Isotope Group, Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC), on ‘Atoms in the Service of Mankind’. The lecture was graced by Mahbubul Haque, Chancellor of USTM, RK Sharma, Pro Vice Chancellor, Amarjyoti Chaudhury, CV Raman Chair Professor at USTM, and TR Ganapathi, Head of Plant Cell Culture Technology Section, BARC. The event was organised to pay homage to APJ Abdul Kalam and to rekindle the memory of his visit to the university in 2014 on the occasion of ‘North East College Principals’ Conclave’.

Meritorious students to be felicitated
SHILLONG: The Shillong Agarwal Samaj will felicitate students, who have excelled in various fields in 2016-17, in SSLC and HSLC examination (having percentage of 90% and above from any board and MBOSE (position holders) and any higher classes. Those who have excelled in sports and received awards in the state and national levels or any other achievers will be felicitated as well. The applicants can contact Sarad Bawri (98630-60390) with photo copies of their certificates before September 21.

BSF vs BGB sports events conclude       
SHILLONG: BSF water sports (rowing) team consisting of one officer and 14 other ranks, returned back from Bangladesh through ICP Dawki on Saturday. The team went to Bangladesh on September 10, to attend a friendly water sports event between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) held at Mymensingh on September 15. Various joint ventures were organised between both the border guarding forces under confidence building measures. Recently two joint medical camps were also organised by both the forces at border for local populations of both India and Bangladesh at Dalu (India) and Nakugaon (Bangladesh) respectively.
