NONGSTOIN: The Dorbar Shnong of Rngi Lower Iew Rambrai and the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) on Tuesday handed over two persons to the police for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a woman at Rngi Lower Iew Rambrai on Tuesday.
Source said the duo were identified as Abdul Rahaman, 24, and Nurul Sk, 28, of Mushidabad, West Bengal.
Both of them were salespersons who went door to door for selling groceries, utensils and other commodities.
The incident occurred around 10am on Tuesday when Abdul went to the house of Anjalindaris Wahlang (32) of RL Iew Rambrai.
He tried to touch her and abuse her with slang words. Abdul had seen that the woman was alone with her baby.
Wahlang cried for help as she tried to escape along with her baby, prompting neighbours to report the case to the dorbar and the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People members who thereafter apprehended the duo.
The two are being interrogated by Nongstoin police. An FIR was filed by the victim against Abdul.
