Get Together of Harmony marks Durga Puja eve in Shillong

SHILLONG: “There may be different paths but all meet at the religion of love” was the loud and clear call at the   All Faith All Religion Get Together of Harmony organized by the Central Puja Committee on the occasion of Durga puja celebrations.

Different religious leaders who spoke at the programme stressed for peace and harmony as all religions calls for peace and brotherhood among all the denominations.

Speaking on the occasion, Meghalaya Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma said that the concept organising harmony   programmes on the occasion of Durga puja was exclusive and unique to Meghalaya and this should be replicated by people from other states of the country as well.

Stating that the situation is different in Meghalaya and in Shillong than what it used to be in the year 2010-2014, Sangma added that   peace and harmony had prevailed in Meghalaya.

According to Sangma, the peace which has been achieved should not be dislocated and Meghalaya should   sustain peace and even spread it across boundaries.

He also pointed out that sustained peace in the state has increased the foot falls of tourists in Meghalaya and hotels here does not even have rooms for the guests.

Earlier, Union Minister of State for Law & Justice and Corporate Affairs P P Chaudhary said that Meghalaya is becoming a role model with such programmes which brings different faiths and religions together.

“There are always misconceptions about religion but such misconceptions are removed by these kind of programmes,” he said.

Shillong MP, Vincent Pala who was also present on the occasion while lauding the CPC said that event such as these did not divide but   unite people for a better state, country and the world.

Earlier, religious leaders from different faiths spoke on the occasion besides cultural programmes were also organized on the occasion.
