SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Commercial Vehicles’ Union (MCVU) met Deputy Commissioner of State Transport Authority to discuss issues faced by the body recently. MCVU has brought up two crucial issues regarding the influx of vehicles from outside the state and the government approved rate for carriage. The union has alleged that the influx of trucks which are freely making their earnings in the state has caused a hurdle for the people of the state to earn their livelihood in transportation of goods like cement, crops, limestone among others. MCVU has also claimed that most of these trucks owned by outsiders do not have valid documents like the Regional Permit, Work/ Labour permit or the Trading License. In a statement, the union president Handle Mukhim, thanked the Deputy Commissioner of State Transport Authority, PM Sangma and the District Transport Officer Enforcement, HF Khongsit who have assured to look into the matter. After receiving the list of government approved rate for carriage, the union said it was perplexed to see that the government had not renewed the rates since 2005.
