CEO on election mode, holds meeting with DCs

SHILLONG: The chief electoral officer, Frederick Kharkongor, has carried out a video conferencing with the deputy commissioners of the State as part of election preparedness on Tuesday.
Kharkongor said that all the deputy commissioners have been asked to meet the enrolment target.
Political parties will also be urged to cooperate in this effort, Kharkongor said.
The present strength of the electorate in the State is 17,58,051 and the target is to cross 18 lakh voters.
With this in mind, the last special summary revision before the polls will be launched on Wednesday.
The election department has also scheduled a series of programmes on Wednesday on poll preparedness, Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) awareness and increase in polling stations.
The election department is planning to increase the polling stations from 2771 to 3082 to help the voters.
During the meeting on Wednesday, the Meghalaya Election Atlas in collaboration with NESAC, SVEEP music video, and VVPAT awareness video will be launched besides the report on Mission Unite.
The draft electoral roll will also be released to the political parties on the occasion.
A separate interactive session with political parties has also been scheduled.
