Second death anniversary of Hopingstone Lyngdoh

NONGSTOIN: The second death anniversary of Hopingstone Lyngdoh was observed at Tiehsaw playground on Tuesday.
HSPDP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit and extra assistant commissioner S.Warjri attended the function as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively. Speaking on the occasion, Basaiawmoit lauded the efforts of the Khmih Creative Society for organising the programme to remind the people about the contributions of the great legend.
The programme began with a procession led by Nongstoin legislator D.Jyndiang from PWD IB followed by a rally by a group of bikers along with a team from Nongpyndeng Cultural Club in colourful traditional attire.
School students participated in various activities including traditional song competitions, drawing contests and paper plane flying competitions among others.
Lyngdoh was also remembered at a function organised by the Dorbar Kur of Lyngdoh Nonglait in Mawkyllei in West Khasi Hills. Rev. PBM Basaiawmoit and KHADC chief executive member P.N Syiem attended the programme as special guests.
Syiem, while speaking on the occasion, announced the sanction of Rs 6 lakh to erect a statue of Lyngdoh at Nongstoin.
Basaiawmoit recalled the contributions of Lyngdoh as a public representative and a hills state freedom fighter. The Dorbar Kur of Lyngdoh Nonglait also released a new album, Ban Sah Pyrto. A documentary on the life of the leader was also screened. Over 100 hills state freedom fighters were felicitated on the occasion.
