SHILLONG: The new traffic diversions in the city that started in February have failed to ease congestion near Don Bosco Square and police are planning to go back to the old arrangement.
In a statement released on Monday, SP (City) Vivek Syiem said traffic arrangement in the area will be reverted back from October 4.
Syiem admitted that the new arrangement, which started as a trial run on February 8, did not bring any improvement in the Don Bosco area and its adjoining localities. It was observed that the steepness of the Jacob’s Ladder Road added to the inconvenience.
The statement further listed the reverted arrangements which included that vehicles coming from Laitumkhrah and heading to St Anthony’s College will go down through Jacob’s Ladder Road and not the reverse way.
Meanwhile, vehicles coming from St Anthony’s College to Laitumkhrah will exit through St Mary’s College via Shillong Commerce College Road and the vehicles coming from Shillong Commerce College and Shillong College can exit through St Mary’s College towards Don Bosco Point.
It also said that vehicles will continue to climb from Lower Lachaumiere towards St Stephen Hall Road and exit at Don Bosco Square. At the same time, vehicles can also come from Don Bosco and exit down through Jacob’s Ladder Road.
