Bangla miscreants attack border residents
SHILLONG: Two cases of attempted stealing and molestation by Bangladeshi miscreants have come to light in South Garo Hills. A complaint was lodged by Robinson K Sangma of Makbiljora Rongara in the district in which he said last month, Bangladeshi miscreants attempted to break into his house and later fled towards Bangladesh.In another case, Simpong Sangma of the same village lodged a complaint that around 11.30 pm on Tuesday, Bangladeshi miscreants attempted to molest his daughter in his residence. However, when the family raised an alarm, the miscreants fled towards Bangladesh. Earlier, there was a series of attacks on border residents by Bangladeshi miscreants.

CM urged to upgrade Tura College
TURA: A memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma by the Tura Government College Students’ Union (TGCSU) during the Youth Entrepreneurship and Business Development awareness programme held recently at the college. In the memorandum, the Union urged the CM to look into the various infrastructure requirements of the Tura Government College. It also sought the appointment of full-fledged vice principal, lecturers and ministerial staff in vacant posts, up gradation of commerce department into commerce stream, speedy release of post-matric scholarship for the session 2012-13, introduction of new subjects, construction of gallery for college playground, conduct of study tours and field trips, up gradation of classrooms, stocking of new books in the library as per the syllabus, replacement for old college bus, indoor stadium hall, up gradation of science lab and establishment of a full-fledged morning shift classes besides others.

Swachh Bharat Diwas
MAIRANG: The office of the Block Development Officer, Mairang C and RD Block in collaboration with the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM), Nongstoin observed Swachh Bharat Diwas on October 2 at Madan Dommawlum-Pyndengumiong in Mairang.Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw PM Syiemlieh graced the occasion as chief guest in presence of the BDO Mairang Community and Rural Development Block, FM Lakiang, Sordar of Pyndengumiong, the secretary of Pyndengumiong, the Headmistress of St Thomas Higher Secondary School, principal of Mairang Presbyterian Higher Secondary School and the president of the Seng Kynthei, PyndengumiongVarious events and competitions were organised in the block level whereas the Swacchh Bharat team organised and participated in two awareness programme cum cleaning drives at Nongktieh Manai and the iconic Kyllang rock respectively.

Bikers meet DC over WKH development
SHILLONG: Members of The Ultimate Legend Bikers’ Association (TULBA) have urged the government to turn West Khasi Hills into a tourist hub to help locals who have been facing problems post ban on mining. In a meeting with the West Khasi Hills deputy commissioner in Nongstoin, the TULBA members said locals have been hit hard by the ban on mining of coal and other minerals and restrictions on felling of trees. “The association requests the government and the Tourism Department to turn the district into a tourist hub so that it creates employment for the people here,” the members said.

One struck by lightning dies
NONGSTOIN: One person identified as Kynsaiborlang Wahlang (26) of Lumpyngngad under West Khasi Hills died on the spot after being struck by lightning on Wednesday.Sources said that Kynsaiborlang along with his friends Klaindingstar Wahlang (18) of Lumpyngngad and Jokendarful Syiem (24) of Nongrangoi went for bird hunting in the nearby forest. But when they reached Mawbuit lightning struck them where Kynsaiborlang died on the spot while his friends were seriously injured.They were later shifted to Nongstoin Civil Hospital for better treatment.
