SHILLONG: Union Minister and Meghalaya election in-charge Alphons Kannanthanam, along with BJP central leader Nalin Kohli, will tour Garo Hills on October 11 to assess party’s preparedness for polls.
State BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh said on Saturday that after their recent visit to Shillong, they want to assess the Garo Hills situation.
“They will meet the Garo Hills leaders and members of the party during their visit,” Lyngdoh said.
According to Lyngdoh, though the party is prepared to contest in all the 60 seats, the final decision will be made by the central election committee.
He also said the party will invite applications for the allotment of tickets only after the formation of the state election committee.
The state BJP president said with Cabinet Minister Roshan Warjri opting out of the 2018 polls, there is a bright chance for BJP in the constituency.
Former Minister JA Lyngdoh is the ticket aspirant from North Shillong.
“We feel that Congress nominee WHD Syngkon will not be a strong contender and we will be able to secure the seat,” the BJP state president said.
During the Lok Sabha polls in 2014, Lyngdoh, who was the BJP candidate, had secured more votes (5,165) than Congress candidate Vincent Pala (4,233) from North Shillong.
