GUWAHATI: Assam State BJP has warned the party MP from Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency Ram Prasad Sarma, who was recently caught in camera making allegation that ministers in Assam especially one from the BJP were taking commission for awarding various contracts, against making irresponsible remarks that might tarnish image of the party besides creating confusion among people of the state.
The BJP issued the warning after the MP could not provide any documentary evidence before the state party’s special executive committee meeting on Saturday night to substantiate the allegation of commission raj levelled by him against some of the ministers in the BJP-led government in the state
“Sharma was asked to provide evidence on his allegations by 5 pm on Saturday. He could not provide any evidence. So the meeting decided to issue him a warning not to make any such statements in future. Moreover, the State unit will send a report to the Central leadership on the issue,” state BJP spokesman Rupam Goswami told the media here.
Most ministers were charging a “ten per cent cut (commission)” for awarding the projects, he was quoted as saying in the camera.
Earlier, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in response to allegation made by the MP, stated that action would be initiated if the MP Sarma could provide documentary evidence to substantiate the allegation made by him against some ministers of the state particularly irrigation minister Ranjit Dutta.
State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass stated that no action can be taken on the basis of allegation of corruption made in the media without providing any substantial evidence.
The MP was caught making the allegation against state ministers in a sting operation conducted by a local TV channel.
