SHILLONG: Manipur deputy chief minister and NPP leader Yumnam Joykumar Singh said in Meghalaya, NPP will be able to lead the next government supported by others, including BJP.
Singh, who visited the NPP office in the city on Saturday, said there will be reversal of Manipur in Meghalaya in 2018.
“In Manipur, BJP secured 21 seats and we got four. Hence, BJP is leading the government there. But in Meghalaya, we are sure that NPP will get at least 25 seats and the party will be able to lead the government here with other like-minded parties, including BJP,” Singh said.
He, however, ruled out any pre-poll alliance with BJP in the run-up to the polls.
To a question on whether NPP was poaching legislators from the Congress and other parties in Meghalaya, the deputy chief minister said the party was not doing anything as alleged but that the legislators are moving out of the Congress-led government since they wanted a change.
“People are joining NPP since they desire a change and there is nothing like poaching or coercion,” he added.
Singh, who was present in Pynursla when many Congress supporters joined NPP on Saturday, said there is good response towards the party.
Asked about the party’s growth in the absence of its architect, late PA Sangma, Singh said his son and Tura MP Conrad Sangma will carry forward the legacy of his father.
“Conrad is a dynamic leader and we hope that he would be able to achieve greater things and can even surpass the achievements of the father,” Singh said.
Elaborating on the activities of NPP, the Manipur leader said, “We want to make the party grow in the Northeast so that it will be the voice of the people of the region.”
