TURA: Irked by the delay in fulfilling the assurance given by Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma to remove two non-indigenous employees working in the district, NGOs from North Garo Hills have threatened to picket the DC’s office on October 11, 12 and 13.

NGOs from the district including the GSU, FAF, FKJGP and AAYF recently met Dr Sangma at Resubelpara seeking removal of Rahul Medhi, an assistant programme manager and Dhrubo Jyoti Das, IT professional at DRDA both of whom, are allegedly from Assam as per their voter ID cards.

Earlier on July 21, a complaint on the matter was also submitted to deputy commissioner, S C Sadhu and ADC P K Boro where they were assured that the two would be replaced.

The NGOs also questioned the silence of the four MLAs from Bajengdoba, Resubelpara, Mendipathar and Kharkutta and condemned them for not speaking out on the burning issue.

“We will picket the office of the Block Development Officer (BDO), Resubelpara and the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) on October 11, 12 and 13. If the government ignores us and fails to act, we will resort to other course of action until our demands are met,” the NGOs said in a statement.
