SHILLONG: Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MDC Adelbert Nongrum has asserted that he would not change his mind with regard to moving the no-confidence (NC) motion on the first day of the KHADC session on Thursday.
“I will go ahead with the NC to prove to the world what the People’s Democratic Forum (PDF) is. It is not about KHNAM but the survival of the indigenous Khasis,” he told The Shillong Times.
Asked whether he was looking for support from other members, he said, “I have informed them about the NC. It is up to the understanding of the members to perform their duty as law makers for the protection, preservation and safeguard of the indigenous tribes.”
Nongrum will move the no-confidence motion based on the alleged non-performance of the executive committee of the PDF with regard to labour license, trading license and delay in the amendment to Rule 128.
After Nongrum announced his decision to table the no confidence motion, the KHADC executive committee recently cancelled 134 trading licenses of non-tribals and also took action against two agents for issuing labour licenses.
According to Nongrum, the issues he will be raising are nothing new. The MDCs should have an understanding that the NC is based on these relevant issues, otherwise they would fail as lawmakers,” he said.
Ruing that the KHADC session is scheduled only two days, he said, “They deliberate issues of the indigenous tribes for only two days!”
“If they can convene a special session to pass the Village Administration Bill, why not give more days to decide on the amendment to Rule 128,” he asked.
The amendment is aimed at making adult franchise in the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement exclusively for the indigenous tribes.
