SHILLONG: The Centre is yet to decide the date for flights to operate from Umroi airport to other Northeastern states under the Regional Connectivity Scheme known as UDAN.
A transport department official said the state government is waiting for the nod from Union government on the date to start the service.
The official said the state government has already signed an agreement with the Centre regarding the matter.
According to the agreement, Air Deccan will operate the service with incentives from both the Centre and the state government with 90:10 funding pattern.
Under the agreement, flights from the Umroi airport will be connected to five destinations in the Northeast — Agartala, Aizawl, Dimapur, Imphal and Silchar and the fare per head will be Rs 2,500.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier launched the UDAN scheme from Shimla airport.
