Software, App to monitor urban development missions in states: Puri

GUWAHATI:  The Government of India is soon resorting to software and App based monitoring of the status of implementation of various centrally-sponsored urban development schemes by various states in the country.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri who was here for a review of progress of urban missions in all the eight Northeastern states, said  on Thursday that the software and the App would be like mirror for the respective states regarding implementation or urban mission schemes compared to the status in other states. Once the software and the App are made operational the status of implementation in all the states will be available at the finger tips.

He, claimed that intensive works were in being done even though variation in pace exist among the states. He briefly mentioned that, for instance, Mizoram (ruled by Congress) is far ahead in implementation of schemes compared to other N-E states.

The minister reviewed implementation status of Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana (Urban), Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Smart City Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) and Northeastern Region Urban Development Programme (NERUDP). He said the 10 % Lump Sum Scheme for North-East would continue for the next two years for the on-going schemes.

After the review meeting the Union minister released funds totaling Rs 182 crore to the NE states – Mizoram (Rs 22.89 crore), Tripura (128.53 crore), Meghalaya (Rs 2.73 crore), Nagaland (Rs 2.98 crore), Sikkim (Rs 5.35 crore), Assam (Rs 18.13 crore) and Arunachal Pradesh (Rs 1.65 crore) under various schemes of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Under the PMAY (Urban), the ministry has approved construction of 1,52,290 affordable houses for urban poor in the eight N-E states during the last 28 months in 149 cities out of the 239 cities included in the mission as against 26,041 houses sanctioned during the ten years of the previous UPS regime during 2004-14.

Out of these 1,52,290 houses 1606 for Arunachal, 53,306 for Assam, 26,462 for Manipur, 767 for Meghalaya, 10,570 for Mizoram, 13,561 fir Nagaland, 43 for Sikkim, 45,975 for Tripura. The ministry has asked N-E states to submit proposals for two lakhs more such houses by March 31, 2018.

The Union Minister stated that 42 towns in N-E have become Open Defecation Free (ODF), 588 community and public toilets and 20,237 individual toilets have been constructed under Swachh Bharat Mission. So far 731 wards in these states have facilities for 100 % door to door collection of solid waste. Twelve plants in these states are processing waste to compost and another 9 such plants are being constructed.
