SHILLONG: Members of the village council have issued a clarification in reference to the report of disruption during Aadhaar enrollment at Jhalupara on Thursday.
In a statement issued here, the village council members alleged that the distribution of forms and other processes initiated by Jhalupara ward commissioner Vikash Gupta has a political motive as “everyone knows in Jhalupara that he is aspiring for a BJP ticket from 19 South Shillong.”
In this connection, they said the village had to step in and requested the district authorities to take immediate action against the misuse of enrolment process.
During the meeting with East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner, PS Dkhar, the village council made its stand clear that no political parties’ interference would be allowed.
The council members stated that they objected to the involvement of a few ward members.
The council said participation of ward members in enrolment activities would encourage illegal migrants and dubious voters in the area.
The village council also condemned the allegation made by ward commissioner, Gupta that the council members were working at the behest of MLA Sanbor Shullai, asserting that it does not want to affiliate itself with any party.
