MAWKYRWAT: PWD Minister MM Danggo has lashed out at rivals who are criticising the Congress-led government for not bringing development to the state.
Addressing a gathering at the inaugural function of the office building of the PWD (Roads) executive engineer in Ranikor on Saturday, Danggo said people with vested interest were trying to mislead the people of Ranikor by claiming that there was zero development.
Danggo represents Ranikor constituency.
“People who have negative minds always speak negative things and they will never appreciate others’ contribution,” he added.
Danggo was disappointed that he could not complete the project connecting Ranikor-Phlangdiloin and Wahkaji-Warsan Lyngdoh areas because of protests by pressure groups which claimed that the roads would facilitate uranium mining.
“We try to make them understand that first we need the road and if uranium is bad then we will protest together, but they did not agree,” the minister said and added that many road projects in Ranikor were sanctioned under various schemes.
The projects include 2 km Jakrem-Ranikor road, Nongjri-Khonjoy road, Phlangdioin-Phlangmawprah road and Umpung-Pynden Sohsaw road.
Danggo also laid the foundation stone for metalling and blacktopping of the 7-km road that connects the MBGM Road with Mawpyllun through Alekwareng, including the construction of three RCC double-lane bridge. This road was sanctioned under RIDF-XXII for an amount of Rs 10.98 crore.
The other projects for which the minister laid base are metalling and blacktopping of the 5-km road connecting Shipara and Nayapara, which include three bridges. This road was sanctioned under RIDF-XXII for an amount of Rs 9.70 crore.
“It is a long journey to get this building since the inauguration of the division in 2005,” he said about the new PWD building.
