SHILLONG: The BJP has zeroed in on five legislators who will join the party in November, while party president Amit Shah is likely to visit the state before December 18.
BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh said on Sunday that besides the Independents, Justine Dkhar and Robinus Syngkon, there are three more legislators who will join the party.
Earlier, Dkhar and Syngkon had indicated that they would join BJP at an appropriate time and also wanted the party to intervene in coal mining related issues.
“We are working on the modalities for the MLAs to join BJP and it is expected that they will join in November,” he said.
He, however, did not reveal the names of the MLAs or the party which they belong to.
The state BJP leader further said the party’s national president, Amit Shah, will visit Meghalaya before December 18 after the culmination of the Gujarat polls scheduled in two phases on December 9 and 14. The counting of votes will be held on December 18.
“We expect the national president to visit Shillong before Dec 18,” he said.
As part of the poll preparations in Meghalaya, the state BJP president said booth level sammelans will be held in November and December in Khasi-Jaintia and Garo Hills regions.
