TURA: A case of ATM fraud has been reported from Tura in which a newl- issued ATM card of an elderly man was collected by an unidentified person from the Office of the Post Master and a large amount of money withdrawn using it fraudulently.

Willerth A Sangma of Daldagre Village in the outskirts of Tura had gone to the post master’s office to inquire about his ATM card as well as to withdraw some money when he found that his ATM card had been collected by somebody else and a large amount from his personal account withdrawn.

An entire amount of Rs 1,91,755/- was withdrawn from the victims account.

“I was waiting for the ATM card to be delivered by post. However, when I went to inquire about the delay I was told that my card had been collected by someone else. I then tried withdrawing some money and found that my entire saving was gone,” Sangma said.

Sangma had applied for the ATM facility sometime in the month of January this year.

Soon after the ATM fraud was discovered an FIR was filed against unidentified persons by the victim at the Tura Police Station demanding immediate inquiry into the matter.

In the FIR Sangma also questioned the role of the staff at the post master’s office who issued the ATM card without verifying the identity of the account holder.
