SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has fixed the next meeting of the Supervisory Committee on cleanliness at 4.30 pm on Tuesday in the chamber of the chief secretary.
The court asked the assistant solicitor general to advice authorities concerned to attend the meeting.
During the hearing on Monday, senior counsel HS Thangkhiew appearing for the State of Meghalaya submitted that last week, the meeting of the Supervisory Committee could not be held “due to the circumstances beyond control” related to non-availability of the chairperson as also the co-chairperson.
Having regard to the submissions made, the default in holding the meeting last week was excused but the court said it expects the chairperson of the committee to hold the meeting every week as already ordered and in case of his non-availability, to make alternate arrangement for chairing of the meeting.
“Similarly, it applies to all the members of the committee that no meeting will go unattended and if there are any unavoidable circumstances, their due authorised representatives should be nominated to attend the meeting,” the order said.
Assistant solicitor general A. Paul submitted that the authorities concerned with MES area have certain suggestions to make for efficient management of cleanliness around the area.
The assistant solicitor general further submitted that the authorities concerned would be willing to attend the next meeting of the Supervisory Committee as also any other meetings if required.
The matter has been listed for further orders after two weeks.
