NONGPOH: After several decades of waiting, the people of four villages of Mairung Heh, Mairung Pdeng, Umtring and Nongkyndong villages under Umsning constituency can now hope that they may get blacktopped road connecting their villages.

Meghalaya’s PHE minister, Dr C Lyngdoh laid the foundation for construction of a 5-Km road from Umbir to Mairung on Saturday

The road was sanctioned under the RIBF Scheme at an estimated amount of Rs. 2.18 crores.

It may be mentioned that in the past several decades, people of these four villages who are mostly farmers had to suffer a lot due to lack of proper road connectivity and as there was no other means of transportation, their produce had to be left wasted in the fields as they could not transport them to the market thereby causing huge loss for them.

Addressing the function, Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh said that he was very happy to see that the long awaited dream and aspiration of the people has finally turns into a reality.

“Nothing is impossible if we work together as team” Lyngdoh said, adding that as road is the backbone of development; he is optimistic that the new road will benefit the people and raise their economic standards.

On the other hand, Dr Lyngdoh urges the people to continue their support in the days to come as well in order to bring overall developments for the people of Umsning constituency.

The laying of foundation here was also attended by MCRM Vice Chairman, MG Kharshanlor, Executive Engineer of PWD, F.K Umdor, Assistant Executive Engineer PWD, R. Kharkongngor, Executive Engineer PHE Nongpoh, D Umdor, traditional heads and local villagers of four villages.
