SHILLONG: The Vigilance Awareness Week is celebrated every year to inculcate integrity and to develop awareness about corruption among the youth in order to achieve the glory of the ancient past, said A. M. Paul Assistant Commissioner, Central Goods & Services Tax (GST), Shillong, Division – I, during the prize distribution ceremony of the essay writing competition held in Buddha Bhanu Saraswati College on Saturday.
The State celebrated the Vigilance Awareness Week by organising various literacy programmes from October 30 to November 4.
“Each one of us is a custodian of India’s well being and of the legacy that we will pass on to coming generations,” said Ram Nath Kovind, President of India. This year, literary programmes was organised on the topic, ‘My Vision – Corruption Free India.’
Addressing the students of the college, Paul said, “Corruption is present in different spheres – political, social economic and education; which needs to be eradicated by creating awareness.”
The essay was organised in three different languages English, Hindi and Khasi. The first prize in the English essay writing competition was bagged by Vishaka Joshi followed by Rahul Ghosha and Uttam Sharma. The first prize in the Hindi category was bagged by Mukesh Kr. Yadav followed by Rubi Patel and Arpan Luitel. The first prize in the Khasi category was bagged by Nangshanskhem Nongneng followed by Shemphanglin Lyngkhoi and Khoilan Maring.
